Meet The Prickly Pear Lady - a witch, a healer, a forgotten goddess from the imagined folklore of Gozo.
Part of the first chapter in a new series exploring feminist folklore, this piece tells the story of a powerful woman who brewed tinctures from prickly pear fruit that healed every ailment. When the king’s daughter fell ill, no doctor could save her - except the so-called “witch” living in the hills.
Her medicine worked. The girl lived. But the king, threatened by a woman with greater power than he, burned her home and her magic to the ground.
In rage and mourning, she cursed the village of Munxar for 200 years - and is said to still dwell in the caves of Sanap.

This print is an ode to silenced women, ancient herbal knowledge, and the resistance that lives on through myth.
Storytelling as protest. Folklore as memory.
